Merlin's Magicians Newsletter

Beulah – Ceredigion Newsletter. Dec 2011

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas, and that the New Year will be good for you.
Remember that it is the time of year to renew your BFA membership!

Beat me to it this month Georgina : - )

May I reiterate what Georgina says? Please renew your membership, without it you will not be able to compete in sanctioned tournaments. New members note, you don’t need to join until your dog is in one of the teams, (although you can join now Starters do not need membership.) When you decide to join, either download a form from the BFA website or ask your team captain for one.

The month of December started well, but unfortunately the weather decided that we were not doing the last couple of sessions, rain!!
Looking back over 2011 I think we have done very well, people have come and people have gone but, we committed addicted few have stuck and..... We have a couple of new members that seem as happy as we are with this mad, wonderful game of Flyball!! Dave with Corrie (Registered Border Collie) and Jayne with Betty (Working Springer) we hope they will be joining us for fun & frolics (camping) at tournaments in 2012. And, I have a couple of enquiries off people wanting to start in the New Year, so one never knows.
The main news is that we have decided to update our Flyball boxes, we have decided to buy a couple of second hand (nearly new) Hybrid boxes, these are very similar to the CanAm boxes used by ‘serious’ teams. Kinder to the dogs than the Boomerang boxes, used by a lot of the BFA teams now. I found a pair of these boxes for sale, through the BFA web site forum, the team that is selling is going for the much more expensive Belgium boxes. I am hoping to collect these boxes at the BFA AGM. This also means that we will be able to ‘lend out’ the Boomerang boxes to members who want to have a go at ‘box work’ at home.

Although Beulah have decided to stop training for the winter, we are going to carry on, if the weather allows us to, we shall train.
The contact  agility equipment is now safely ensconced in my Smithy/garage; I am going to give it a ‘going over ready for next year. A new combination lock has been purchased for the first shed at our training field, so we will have available a full set of equipment to play with next year.

I am sure you will all join me in sending every good wish to Mike, he is going into hospital mid January for a knee replacement operation. On the plus side, he will be worth a fortune in scrap value soon!!

I am doing extremely well following my operation and want to thank all of you for supporting me, setting up and clearing away at training sessions, they would not have been possible without you. A very special thank you to Dave, one of our newest members, you’ve been brilliant Dave : - )
We have already been booked to do a display at the St Clears Show, one of the larger shows held at the Carmarthen Show Ground, this will, unfortunately, most likely us mean missing the Frome tournament, but the donation to club funds will help pay for the boxes and, it will give the newer dogs the same type of experience as a ‘Starter’ competition.

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas (without too many hangovers)
And wish each and every one of you a Happy New Year.

Happy New Year

Merlin’s are on the up, watch this space,
