Merlin's Magicians January Flyball & Agility Newsletter
January Newsletter
I had intended to miss a January Newsletter as we weren’t doing any training but I couldn’t let all this snow go without comment could I?
Personally I have only been able to get out once since well before Christmas, (writing this January 13th) well, twice counting when my daughter and family, over from Australia, visited and took us (Liam & myself) out for a family meal. And, very nice it was too, we went to the Phoenix at Cross Hands, I can recommend it. Problem is, my van was parked behind my property up a very icy farm track, plus it was in a good foot or more of snow due to drifting. So, stuck, until I had help from a friend on one day when the main road was clear to get out. Got essentials from Tesco, plus another sack of dog food and once home parked at the front………….I really did think that would be better but, no such luck, snow and ice, still stuck! It was fun to start with, enough food for myself and ‘them’ wood for the wood burner and alcohol in plenty from Christmas! Now it’s getting tedious the dogs are getting stir crazy, and……… I’m running out of alcohol!!
The proposed meal has had to be put on hold for the moment, when the weather improves I will get onto it I promise.
How farseeing was that deciding to have January off? Seems like it just saved me doing a heck of a lot of ringing around cancelling.
A big apology to Liz’s lovely Monty, I missed him out when I was talking about the height dogs last newsletter. This smashing little chap, who Liz was beginning to despair of ever doing Flyball, Says he isn’t the sharpest Knife in the drawer!! Bless…. Had been training for months when all of a sudden, light dawned and guess what? Another height dog in the making. And such a pretty one too, looks like a short legged miniature Beardie!
17th January. Now it’s practically gone, (snow that is) the mud is like wading through treacle!! As a result of the rain and melting snow Lizzies Barn rescue in Kidwelly has been severely flooded, they would be grateful for any help/donations. Read about it. http://www.dogpages.org.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=216525&st=0
It has been suggested that we have a page for ‘rescues/homes wanted’ on the site, I think it is a brilliant idea and am hoping that Kathy, who works for Collie Rescue Wales will help with it.
22nd January and some improvement in the weather means we (Pack & Me) are able to walk again in the mornings. Also means I can re-arrange Pretzel’s operation – she won’t be impressed. Pretzel is to have the pin removed from the luxating Patella operation site, although she has been fine since the operation, of late, she has been tender in that area and it is thought that maybe it had become loose, as it isn’t needed now it can come out. It is possible that the discomfort was what stopped her doing Flyball; she was fine with the jumps etc. Just didn’t like the box prior to the operation. Next week I shall look into the meal out again too.
Gavin, owner of our Bryn Iwen venue, came to my rescue the other day when the side door of my van stopped working, wheel came off or something, I admit to being useless with such things, I just panic and shout for help! He told me he has started a Plant Hire business covering Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion & Pembrokeshire, self drive or operated. Doesn’t have a web site but can be contacted on 01994 484354.
I didn’t realize that a team has to be actually registered as for ‘Multibreed’ only found out when I was in touch to register a new team and was asked is it for Multibreed! So the new team name, under which our Multibreed team will run is now……………… wait for it…………….’Merlin’s Witches Brew’
The way I understand it the dogs can also be used in the Magicians or Sorcerers when no Multibreed competition is available.
Bored now, I was talking to Liz on the telephone, she feels the same, hope the weather stays good enough for us to start training as planned February. We are going to do some advertising for the Ferryside area, although Starlight has healthy numbers, Ferryside seems stuck with just myself and three or four others. We really could do with more at both Ferryside and Bryn Iwen.
On that note, I will take my leave and just say, looking forward to a great Flyballing 2010, see you at training.
