Merlin's Magicians June 2009 Flyball & Agility Newsletter
Good news everybody! My son underwent extensive cardiac surgery 21st May and was discharged home 8th June. Thin, weak and a very long way to go before he regains his former health but, after 9 weeks hospitalized, alive! Now I don’t have the daily run up to Morriston I can get back to concentrating on our Flyball Team. Plus my fuel expenses will dramatically reduce, I hope. My luck they’ll put up the cost of fuel so it won’t be much different. LOL
Let me welcome the newer members that have joined us, Georgina with Jed, Jed had done some Flyball before moving to our part of the country so is a real asset. Not the fastest but reliable, Jed is a deaf Boxer cross Pointer who relies on hand signals from Georgina. Take a look and read about him in the ‘dogs’ section. Sophie with her Parson Russell cross and, her keen Yellow Lab who is actually a working gundog in her ‘other life’ I hope to get pictures and write ups very soon. Brenda with Trumps our mad black Lab isn’t new but we have only just got the picture included in the ‘dogs’ Brenda has promised a few words very soon. At Ferryside Liz was pleasantly surprised when Ollie Collie was perfection at his first training session in about a year, and Monty her ‘Flying Blanket’ (you’ll understand when we get pictures!) could well be a future ‘height dog’. Jan and her Welsh Sheepdog are coming to Starlight, Jan says ‘ball mad’ so we hope she will love it and stay with us.
We have the dogs now all we have to do is get you all together at the same venue occasionally so we can get our team working.
The ‘fun’ Agility isn’t going as well as we would like but, it is that time of year when people have other things to do and the weather isn’t always that kind. I may have to temporarily stop the Saturday sessions if I continue to take less money than the venue costs. Monday isn’t so bad but Sue has pulled out of the training so you are, once again, stuck with me folks!
I have sent off an entry for Starter competition on Anglesey for Sunday July 26th debut for ‘Merlin’s Apprentices’ Once out of Starters we will graduate to ‘Magicians’ – we hope! The team will consist of Tippi – Trumps – Jed – Annie or Rusty with Ollie Collie as an alternative if Liz can make it. Plus, of course, anyone else who wants to come. We can have six dogs in the team and alternate running them. And…………WE WILL NEED A BOX LOADER, HELP!!! any volunteers? Tai Lawr, the PODS venue is great for the Flyball mad! Camping is available for the week; they have a Hog Roast on the Monday evening. I believe Georgina intends to go for the weekend, commitments mean I and others have to make a day trip of it, another 3 am start!!
Wish us luck, I will report on result and performance in next month’s Newsletter. J
I wondered how everyone feels about Team Wear. I would rather not go to the expense of printed logos etc just yet, thought a plain PURPLE! T Shirt would be in keeping, so will consult you all at training and try and get some in time for Anglesey.
