Merlin's Magicians March 2010 Newsletter

March Newsletter

I don’t know about the rest of you but the coming of Spring is bucking me up no end. Daffodils, snowdrops, walking dogs in the sunshine instead of the slush! Hey yes and frogs spawn in the pools, frogs where I walk were very precocious, spawned end of February!

Having asked a number of you about colour of the new polo shirts, the decision is to stick with purple (such a Wizardly colour plus most of the Ferryside dogs are now wearing purple harnesses!) The Lungworm aware logo will be on the front and ‘Merlin’s’ and a few stars in silver on the back.

Do take a look at the link for the Lungworm aware site. It is very interesting. I personally didn’t realize how common Lungworm is becoming, or how tiny the slugs can be that are accidentally swallowed by dogs. The latter was bought home to us at Ferryside when Sarah took a ball from one of her dogs and found a tiny (less than ½ inch) slug on the ball!

Anne and Emir have now joined us; Anne is moving to Lampeter, she marries Emir in September. Mabel, Anne’s tiny JRT (I think she has about four inch legs!) has competed with a Midlands club so is a much valued height dog for either Multibreed or Division. Sweep the Black Lab has done some training but not competed, he is another welcome addition to our growing number of dogs for competition. Emir has started his GSD X Penny, she looks like a large Kelpie, very new only two sessions and she is starting to relax so ‘watch this space’

Janice and Alan’s Rebel is proving to be just that, a Rebel, loves the Flyball and is up and down like a rocket but isn’t too keen on being caught at the other end. He is a really promising Flyball dog, the sort you need earplugs for! Wanna go! Wanna go! Janice’s daughter is going to bring Rebel to Saturday Agility too.

Sam has overcome his fear of the box, brilliant little man turns into the jumps beautifully, now we have to get him to accept that the other dogs have a right to a turn too!

I am hoping that another new dog will be here before long, a Border Terrier, Pip with her young owner Robin. That will make two Pips, both Terriers; Pip Ferryside has a Border Terrier father. We could have a team of ‘height dogs’ couldn’t we? Liz also has a ‘Pip’ a Cavalier; it would be too confusing if he also did Flyball wouldn’t it?

I shall be asking for photographs and write ups for our ‘Dogs’ page.
We don’t seem to be getting anywhere organizing the ‘re-homing’ page; I haven’t given up…..yet! So keep looking. Kathy was to help but she has had a lot of ‘things’ to cope with of late, including the death of a friend’s husband. Hopefully she and Tick will be back with us soon.

Oh yes Agility.
Bryn Iwen. This is promising to be much better attended than last year. Only three people came to the first two sessions but the second one clashed with Crufts keeping a couple away and I have since had enquiries from more people to boost numbers.
Ferryside, we are hoping to start April 18th. Following the morning Flyball we thought to (weather permitting) have sandwiches and coffee before doing Agility in the afternoon.

Keep your fingers crossed for the weather when we have our Anglesey weekend, should be a really fun time, good company and lots of laughs. I shall tell you all about it in April’s Newsletter. Hopefully we’ll have some candid camera snaps for the Picture Gallery! Not too late to join us, April 10th – 11th. Most of us going up on the 9th and camping a couple of nights.

Clocks went forward today, light nights…………………Brilliant roll on summer.
