Merlin's Magicians May 2009 Flyball & Agility Newsletter

Hi All

Apologies for the brevity of this May Newsletter, unfortunately my son has been in the Cardiac unit of  Swansea’s Morriston Hospital  for the past five weeks awaiting Cardiac Surgery, as a result of this I have spent most of my time either on the M4 travelling to and from or sitting beside his bed. This and the atrocious weather we have been enduring has, obviously, put both Flyball and Agility on the back burner. We have only managed a few sessions over the past month.

However, light at the end of the tunnel, the operation has been booked and cancelled due to lack of an ITU bed once so, should be very soon now, then hopefully, I shall then be able to function again, come off automatic pilot so to speak!

The Bryn Iwen venue has proved to be as good as anticipated, and we are expecting delivery of a brand new ‘A’ frame very shortly. (the only piece of equipment we are missing) Sue is doing Monday training as often as she can manage which is lovely for me, gives the opportunity for me to have a go with my own dogs. Give everyone a laugh! As most people know Flyball is my ‘thing’ and my two main dogs Annie and Rusty are good solid Flyball dogs, Agility? Hmmmm………. Rusty takes the course at full speed treating all jumps as if they were Flyball height and mowing them down, Annie has the concentration span of a Nat and is much more interested in anyone rustling a bag of crisps on the sideline! Both do all the obstacles and follow the course but………..

Pretzel? If I could just get her to realize that it is not necessary to do a twirl in between every piece of equipment whilst I catch up……….As I said we give everyone a laugh.

A set of Flyball equipment is now stored at Bryn Iwen and, weather permitting we will be doing both the Flyball and Agility Saturday afternoons.

We are going to start using the Ferryside field Sunday mornings from 24th May. Initially this will be just Flyball but John Burns (yes ‘Burns food’ John Burns) who is letting us use this field has said he will arrange for our other set of Agility equipment to be transported there from Lizzie’s Barn where it has been stored for a while.

The Carmarthenshire Chargers took a starter team to Stockbridge, Hampshire at Easter and came 3rd and got soaked! Went to the same venue again at the start of May and the weather was boiling. Came 4th! Great weather (jammy lot!) enjoyable day out.

Please everyone bear with me if training is cancelled at short notice just for a while, until my son is ‘out of the woods’ I am sorry but I am a bit unreliable.

My son had his operation today Thursday 21st May and hopefully, once he is off life support he will now recover ‘post haste’

Will chasing a ball soon be outlawed in Carmarthenshire?

Carmarthenshire Council want to impose some dog rules which include dogs being kept on leads at all times. This includes on the beaches in Carmarthenshire, the woods and even Pembrey Country park! They also want to stop people walking more than 3 dogs at a time!

You can get more info by clicking on http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/cgi-bin/item.cgi?id=1907 which takes you to the council website where you can fill out a questionnaire. However, the questionnaire is very subjective and the answers you are able to give are restrictive but you have got a small box to put your comments in.

The bright spark in the council that you need to complain to is Mike Roberts.

If you want copies of the petition please contact Sonja Morris on 01269 842775 (evenings).
