Merlin's Magicians November 2009 Flyball & Agility Newsletter
November newsletter
What a washout November is promising to be, starting this mid way through the month and we’ve hardly been able to get together much at all. Even at Starlight where we train indoors the gales force winds and lashing rain has made travelling too difficult and I have reluctantly had to call it off on more than one occasion.
Quite a bit happening to report.
A training weekend when we all camp and get expert tuition from the PODS up on Anglesey has been booked. The weekend after Easter 10/11th April, the cost is £10 per night for caravans hooked up to electric, £8 per night for tents. Then two Flyball sessions £5 per handler per session and one optional Agility session at £5 per handler. Should be a good social occasion for us all to get to know/meet each other. Good beaches (weather permitting) for walking the dogs. Anyone who is interested that hasn’t already told me, get in touch. This is also an invitation to people from our area that aren’t already with us, just may get you interested/addicted!! Ring me J It is fantastic that we already have 12 possibly 15 coming, the more the merrier.
The article for the Carmarthenshire Life Magazine was printed and available from November 24th. My complimentary copy hasn’t arrived yet I shall have to try and get to W H Smiths and see if it is on sale there.
We have been approached by organisers of The Welsh Festival of The Horse to do a demonstration of Flyball at their event 5/6th September 2010 in Margam Park. I have accepted, now have ten months to work out what we shall do! The request was for Flyball and Agility but, we are not an Agility club so I recommended a friend for that. Bad enough having to haul the Flyball equipment around, Agility stuff...........No thank you!!
My Pretzel (Pomeranian, failed height dog!!) Who despite being able to do the Flyball course prior to having her leg operated on for Luxating Patella two years ago, is now refusing to do either Flyball or Agility, seems she could well have had a good reason, bless her…………… She has recently shown signs of pain in the leg when knocked by another dog when playing, so, back to the Orthopedic Consultant, it seems that the pin in the leg may have become loose; she is to go in and have x-rays and if nothing else is obviously causing her pain, Mr Butterworth will operate to remove the pin. Mind you, if you could see her on forestry walks haring up and down fifteen foot banks, it is hard to believe anything is wrong, we shall see how she is next year, if still reluctant she will retire at her very young age and her only ‘jobs’ will be chief bed warmer!! And noisy van watch – she has the penthouse position in the van allowing her to see and heap verbal abuse on anyone daring to approach!
Duffy Spaniel and Ruby Rottie have now been spayed and hopefully will be back training shortly. Lady is possibly in pup so may be taking a winter break for maternal duties.
Georgina has a new baby…………. Cassie, an ex breeding Cavalier bitch from a puppy farm, at six years old she should have a lovely long retirement trying to keep Georgina’s ‘Thugs’ in order. Or maybe she will just be the cuddly one and leave the ‘Thugs’ to Mum!
For those who ask about my son Liam, thank you, he is now completely recovered.
Graeme is going to update the web site on a monthly basis, so anything for inclusion, please let me have before the last week of the month. Those dogs not already in the ‘Dogs’ please let me have a picture (either photograph for scanning or by email) write a bit about him/her and they will be included a.s.a.p.
Unfortunately Kennel Cough has reared its ugly head again, Sadie and Alfie have contracted it, we think from the Agility club they were attending, which is now shut down for a while. We are not meeting at Starlight for a couple of weeks. After this if no other dogs in our group ‘go down’ with it we should be clear. It is just a precaution as none of the other dogs have or have been in contact but I remember too well the inconvenience of Kennel Cough, having ‘more dogs than sense’ When one of my dogs picked it up a year or more ago, we were in quarantine for so long (they couldn’t all get it together could they? One after the other, week after week!) We almost went ‘stir crazy’
Keep smiling if nothing else it confuses people………… June
